One of these days is a catchy indie pop ballad, written by Alex Kolo and Lydia Laird, both brilliant songwriters and this is clear in the song. It is the debut single for Alex and we hope it is a shinning light for what is yet to come. The song feels nostalgic even on first listen, it seems to harken to a twenty tens pop ballad, like Lady Gaga's Million Reasons or James Arthur's Impossible. Yet clearly stands on its own two feet with the indie elements bring something quite fresh and heartfelt to the genre. Alex is a student at Belmont University and it seems that the Nashville influence has come through with country elements and coming into the song also, especially on the top line (lyrics) front.

It is "simultaneously a love song and a heartbreak song" as Alex described in an instagram post. And this comes across in the lyrical content of the song. It talks about how a lover "one of these days is finally going to fall," this story only further emphasised in the production with rises and breakdowns, even in the great production of the song, there is a simple quality. It doesn't ask anything of the listener, it simply guides them and cushions them. The lyrics are hard hitting and painful, yet the melodies and rhythmic elements seem so charming to the ear.
If you are a fan of indie pop or country pop, One of these days will make a charming addition to your playlist or catalogue.
